Lavender Honey
True Lavender Honey and Infused Lavender Honey
At Lavender Boutique you have 2 wonderful types of honey to choose from.
Lavender Honey and Infused Lavender Honey. Read below to learn about the difference between the two.
Lavender Honey is an exquisite honey that has a floral, well rounded flavor, with a long lasting, medium sweet taste. Oddly it doesn’t have a lavender flavor because the honey bees do not have any access to the lavender oil glands while they are collecting the nectar and pollen from the lavender flowers.
Genuine Lavender Honey is very rare because it can only be produced naturally in three certain conditions.
One: agricultural isolation. This is when there is no other significant agricultural crops grown within a 4 mile (6.5 km) of the hives. This would mean the nectar and pollen gathered by the bees is not a mixture of other flowers.
Two: large massive lavender plants in flower and/or long length of flowering time by having many different varieties of lavender that bloom at different times.
Three: immediate removal of the hives or harvest of the honeycomb when lavender plants have finished blooming.
Lavender honey has a unique taste THAT IS DIFFERENT than any other honey. Only lavender honey that is collected using the factors listed in the paragraph above will have the unique lavender honey taste.
How do I know this is real lavender honey?
There are also three ways to ensure that the lavender honey is genuine.
One: there will be a slight lavender hue in the honeycomb. This is much more evident when compared with the color of the honeycomb that was in the hive at the commencement of the lavender flowering season.
Two: lavender honey as a unique taste than any other honey. Only lavender honey that is collected using the three factors listed in the paragraph above will have the unique lavender honey taste.
Third: purity of honey for mono crop honey can be tested for the pollen rate of the honey. Anything rated above 80% of the mono crop honey is considered to be high enough to be sold as a mono crop honey. Pollen rate for the lavender honey gathered at Lavender Ranch - East Wenatchee and Lavender Ranch - Upper Crescent Bar is above 90%.
